2024 Presidential Nominating Process in Cape Girardeau County

The Missouri Republican, Democratic, and Libertarian Parties will oversee the process of nominating candidates for President.  The details for those processes are set by the political parties and information will be updated as we receive it from the parties. Additional information can be found on the websites of the Missouri Republican Party, Missouri Democratic Party, or Missouri Libertarian Party. 

Cape Girardeau County Republican Party

Pre-Registration is now closed but you can still participate in the Caucus if you are not pre-registered as long as you are registered to vote.

Doors open at 8:00 a.m. and the Caucus will be called to order at 10:00 a.m.

Cape Girardeau County Republican Party will caucus at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the A C Brase Arena Building in Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Dr., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701. Cape Girardeau County Democratic Party

The Democratic Party will administer a party-run presidential primary.

The capedems.com website has been updated and is ‘live’ for those wishing to learn more about the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary and how to participate. 

The plan will feature two options for voting to help maximize participation: Mail-in voting and in-person voting. In-person voting will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Shawnee Park Center activity room, located at 835 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau. The in-person poll will be operated by the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Central Committee and is open to voters from 8am to 12pm. Any qualified voter (registered affiliated Democrats and unaffiliated voters) in line at 12pm will be allowed to vote but the door must close at noon.

Calendar of events: 

February 1: Registered voters who are not registered as affiliated Republicans can begin requesting mail-in ballots through the Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) website: missouridemocrats.org

February 17: Missouri Democratic Party begins to distribute mail-in ballots

February 21: Deadline to be registered to vote with the Missouri Secretary of State to participate in the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary

March 12: The period to request mail-in ballots from the MDP website closes

March 23: In-person voting 8am to 12pm, Shawnee Park Center activity room, 835 S West End Blvd, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703, open to all voters who are not registered as affiliated Republicans.

Mail in ballots must be returned to the MDP by 10am March 23, 2024

March 25: Votes will be counted by the MDP in St. Louis, MO

March 28: Announcement of election winner will be made by this date
