Public Hearing Notice
Cape Girardeau County will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 9, 2015, at 9:00 a m. at the County Commission Meeting Chamber located at 1 Barton Square, Jackson, MO 63755 to discuss the County’s submission of an application for fiscal year 2015 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The County is interested in obtaining all citizens’ input on economic development needs within the County. As part of the hearing process citizens will be asked to verbally assist in the completion of a Needs Assessment document. The document will detail what the residents feel are the strength and weaknesses of the community. The County needs as much local participation as possible in order to reflect the true desires of the community as a whole, as well as the comments relating to the proposed project application.
The maximum amount of funds available from the CDBG program depends upon the type of project, but cannot exceed $2, 00,000 for an existing or established company and $350,000 for Start-up companies. At least 51% of the beneficiaries must be low and moderate-income persons. No displacement of persons will be proposed for this project.
The County proposes to request approximately $500,000 in CDBG Industrial Infrastructure Grant funds to construct public road improvements to County Road 346 and 347 to assist a local company to expand. The proposed project will provide new employment, of which at least 51% will be low and moderate-income persons. Staff members will be present to answer questions about the CDBG program and the proposed project. All citizens, including those in the targeted area, are encouraged to attend in order to comment on the proposed activities.
