Tax Sale Information
The Cape Girardeau County 2026 Tax Lien Sale / Land Tax Sale will be held on August 24, 2026 on the 3rd floor of the County Administration Building beginning at 10:00 AM. Please become very familiar with Missouri Revised Statutes Chapter 140 which contains information about the Sale. Please click ‘HERE’ to get a listing of the parcels being offered and a map of their locations. This list is subject to change based on taxes being paid.

The 2025 Tax Lien Sale was held on August 25, 2025. If your tax lien was sold at the 2025 Land Tax Sale due to delinquent taxes, please call our office at 573-243-4476 for information about redeeming your property. A redemption will be calculated for the date you plan to redeem.
Merchant’s License Information
If you have a business in Cape Girardeau County and are selling merchandise or you manufacture a product, you will need a Merchant’s and Manufacturer’s License. All fireworks vending locations require a Merchant’s License. Renewal applications for 2026 have been mailed.

If you need an immediate receipt, you must pay through the Collector’s Office. The confirmation you receive is not a paid receipt. It will take several days to issue your paid receipt.

Do you need a copy of your personal or real estate tax receipt?
Tax bills and receipts can now be searched online at Municipal Online Payments.
The website works best in Chrome or Edge. For personal property, search by parcel number or name. For real estate, search by name, address, or parcel number – searching by one criterion is best. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call 573-243-4476 or 573-335-2606.
Bill Payment
Payments may be made by cash, check, money order, cashier check, or credit card. For your security and ours, we are no longer accepting credit card payments over the phone or by mail. To use a credit card, you must pay online or in person at the Cape Girardeau or Jackson office.
Credit cards and e-checks may be used for online and automated telephone (IVR) payments.
DropBox / Slot
There is a drop box located by the front door (street level) and in the South Parking Lot at the County Administration Building in Jackson. There is a slot in the door at the Cape Office at 2311 Bloomfield Rd Suite 102 in Cape Girardeau.

The office is located in a strip building on Bloomfield Road across from the former Orschlen parking lot (east of Auto Zone).
The Cape Girardeau County Personal Property Records are online with the State of Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles. This allows License Bureaus in Missouri the ability to verify payment of personal property taxes. Vehicle renewals may be made by calling the Department of Motor Vehicle call center at 1-573-751-1957. Their hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Vehicle license renewals may be made online by using a PIN number issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The PIN number should be listed on your renewal notice.
