Home Cape Girardeau County Clerk Voter Registration Drives

Obtaining Voter Registration Applications

Any individual or organization conducting voter registration drives may obtain and use uniform, pre-printed state applications. These applications can be obtained through your local county clerk/election authority. The request must be in writing and include the requester’s name, address, and telephone number.

Contact the Cape Girardeau County Clerk’s Office for applications.

Requests for a large number of applications should be made through the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office.

Handling Applications

Incomplete Applications: Do not fill in any missing information on a registration form unless you have permission from the applicant.

Missouri law prohibits any person who agrees or offers to submit a voter registration application for another person from knowingly destroying, defacing, or concealing such voter registration applications.

Submitting Applications

Anyone who offers to submit a completed voter registration application on another’s behalf must do so within seven (7) days of accepting or receiving the application.

The Cape Girardeau County Clerk’s office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Training Requirement

Missouri law does not require training for registration drives.  Please contact the Cape Girardeau County Clerk’s Office or Missouri Secretary of State’s Office if you have any questions.

Registration Requirements of Voter Registration Solicitors

Any voter registration solicitor with more than ten(10) registration applications within an election cycle(2 years) must register with the Secretary of State’s office.*

Any registration solicitor must be at least eighteen years of age and registered to vote in the state of Missouri.  (Section 115.205.1 RSMo.)

*Litigation pending for this portion of the 08/28/22 law change*

Compensation Restrictions

More information about these laws can be found in Chapter 115 of the Missouri Revised Statutes.
