About the Port Authority Board

The Port Authority Board is a nine person board, four appointed from Cape Girardeau County and four appointed from Scott County, with one rotating position changing back and forth from county to county every two years. The purpose of every port authority is to promote the general welfare, to encourage private capital investment by fostering the creation of industrial facilities and industrial parks within the port district and endeavor to increase the volume of commerce, and to promote establishment of a foreign trade zone within the port districts, as per statutes 68.010 through 68.070. The Port Authority originated from a port authority sales tax. The budget for the SEMO Port Authority in 2011 is approximately $530,000.
